Once again, I have the challenge of installing Linux on a Macbookpro laptop. The one that I had the first time was a Macbookpro 4,1. Since I like Debian more than others, I installed Lenny which was testing at that time. The first kernel was 2.6.26 and it is now 3.2.0. In the meantime, it was upgraded to Squeeze, and then Wheezy. The newer the kernel, the better the system performance.
Now, I have a new Retina display Macbookpro 10,1. With no ethernet card, no optical drive, and NVIDIA graphics, it will be a lot of fun to install any Linux distribution on it, as expressed in this, this, and this pages, for instance. Sure, it will improve with time but for the moment, perhaps nobody get it working properly.
This sounds interesting! Out of curiousity, what made you decide to put a Linux distro on a Macbook Pro?

Linux is working environment for me, mainly due to free intel fortran compiler !
Please write about the installation method, when you complete that. 🙂
I am using CentOS on my Dell laptop. Installing Linux on Mac book is really interesting.
Sure, let’s see how far I can get it working.
There are a number of reasons why one needs a Linux on this brand new system I have just obtained:
– Xquartz server is using only 1/4 of resolution capabilities (1440×878 pixels) instead of 2800×1800,
– the screen flickers and causes headaches (unless one sets the screen saver on never)
– it may not turn on after closing the lid leaving you with the mouse pointer
– you may wait a minut or longer to get file listing of a directory (ls -la)
As far as I know, Apple laptops were never Linux friendly like IBM thinkpads.
